Inktober 23. Utnapishtim's Ark?
Inktober 23. Utnapishtim's Ark?
A bit of fun. I couldn't remember the name of the hero from around Lake Titicaca who made a reed boat to save his family and the animals from a Flood, but Utnapishtim might also have used a reed boat. I Read about this other Flood myths in either Thor Heyerdahl's Ra or his Tigris expedition. Must read them again, he was a fine writer, may he rest in peace. Or maybe may he adventure on might be more to that adventurer's liking. Anyway, this is going to be coloured with watercolours and was drawn pretty quickly with those Pitt artist pens. #drawingwithoutanet which was particularly difficult with this one - oh for a pencil and eraser!, and #inktober #inktober2015

I sketch pretty quick but I couldn't do something like that quickly XD love the clean lines and the multitudinous detail. Can't wait for the watercolours!
ReplyDeleteAlso if it's any consolation I can't draw without nets or my base models XD
Thanks bek When I say fast... it was an A3 bit of paper. Started at 10, broke for an hour at lunch. Did the scan at 5. Much less careful than I normally am, kept a quick pace. So it took a few hours. But I wanted a naive look, so I think that helped.
ReplyDeleteHey my arm hurts.
ReplyDeleteOh nice to know talented people do my kind of fast, I feel less inept now XD hope your arm isn't hurting too long!
ReplyDeleteIf I'd done it at a relaxed pace it would be more like Splash! http://www.cafepress.com/content/products/img-bleed/clear.gif Don't know if the link will work..
ReplyDeleteno it doesn't. Let me try something else.
Right, made a separate post with a detail of Splash, see above.
Pretty amazing doing something like this with no pencils
ReplyDeleteWhat kinda pen do you use?
ReplyDeleteI got a bit twitchy here and there, thanks Darious R
ReplyDeleteI bought a four pack of various Pitt Faber Castelle Artist Pens, one's a brush pen, the other three are various widths. I'm told I can use water colour over them so I'm looking forward to that. They're new to me, I usually use fountain pen.
ReplyDeleteWow, Alicia Smith! This is pretty amazing, especially with no pencils. I'm looking forward to seeing the water colors!
ReplyDeleteI take it the Pitt pens don't bleed during painting? Is it the pens specifically, or the paper?
Oh wow, this looks like a page right out of a children's picture book! I can't wait for the watercolours, I'm sure it'll look even better then. :)))
ReplyDeleteWow!!! what a patience!!! Congrats!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteExcellent! So cool and cute at the same time. Glad you're enjoying the PITT pens. Make sure to do a wee test with each of your brand of watercolour before splashing on the colour. The different pigments may react a bit. My own palette is pretty safe as long as I let the ink dry completely overnight, and also dry between layers of colour.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I wanna color that page!!!
ReplyDeleteThere's a thing you could do Alicia Smith , make a kickarse colouring book or several XD
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up JS Rowe - I will test with the watercolour inks I have. It'll definitely be drying overnight.
ReplyDeleteAlicia Smith
ReplyDeleteAh watercolour inks. Hadn't thought of those. They are usually dye based, iirc. I've only used Winsor Newton artists/professional (or whatever they're calling them these days). So far, all the transparents in my palette work very well. Good luck. I'm looking forward ot see in this one in colour. :`D
wooow
