I don't know if all the people reading me here will know of the Honor Harrington series by David Weber but never mind. I was thinking of doing a treecat from the series for today's Inktober entry.
The best treecat design I've seen so far is http://zenzmurfy.deviantart.com/gallery/28006646/Honor-Harrington?offset=0 and I love his design for Honor herself, his expressions and capture of her face are really good.
I love the Periscope one too.
Would we have gotten more accurate looking treecats if Weber had called them treeweasels? Probably, but they might have been a lot less popular. I think that treecat design has evolved with the series too - you don't hear any talk of "centaur stances" in the first books.
But if I see one more terrestrial tabby cat with extra legs touted as a treecat I don't know what I'll do.
Anyway, I'll be trying to capture what came to my mind when I read Chapter One of On Basilisk Station. Or I might just draw this cat skull I've had sitting around here. Who knows?

I've being listing to to the latest Weber book concerning an oversized horse stealer it's very good
ReplyDeleteDo you need me to bring more ink colours to gaming tonight?
ReplyDeleteI've been a bit intimidated by the prospect of filling the pen you brought back for me, as I've never filled that sort before, believe it or not, so if you can bring something you'd like to see me use and show me the filling process, that would be awesome, Stephen Gunnell
