This is from an old drawing of mine - just showing you a section (you can view the whole thing http://www.cafepress.com/aliciasmith.108175473 here but the detail doesn't show up well there.
So this is the sort of way I'd do it at leisure...

    It was treasured far past it's wearable phase and, in the end, I believe she cut the front off the shirt and kept that before binning the rest of it. So - in short - yes.
