My review of the Pan Pacific as seen on TripAdvisor:

My review of the Pan Pacific as seen on TripAdvisor:

A very good experience was had by us at the Pan Pacific.

We were staying there about a week for the Swancon Speculative Fiction Convention - this convention has been running for 40 years, and this year was the 40th, so it was pretty special to the attendees.

I and my husband were organising a part of the convention and you couldn't have asked for more helpful or interested and happy staff. A real pleasure to work with. At one stage I needed to get a giant game down to the convention level from my room on the 16th floor, and lo and behold, on enquiry, they sent me a porter and a trolley, let me keep the trolley for my event, and then were happy to load it all up and bring it back up to the 16th level, and still have me back in time to be at my next panel.

That's the one thing about the Pan Pacific, its stars are its staff. They are doing renovations - which are really needed - but when they'll drag stuff around for you without even being asked and do any little thing, that's super.

Both conference staff and hospitality.

They gave us a lot of help with my coeliac husband's meals, and it's the only place I've EVER seen an island away from the buffet, separate toaster, muffins and toast, far away from Cross-Contamination issues. So thank you. It's the only place that we've felt confident enough to try the buffet, as they have arranged it to minimise CC risk. Except for the breakfast salad, one set of tongs for all things, including the croutons, which otherwise would have been okay. But the food was very nice.

With gluten free beer so readily available these days they might like to get some in to match their excellent food. Billabong or O'Briens have plenty of range and are Australian - I'd prefer the local brand, myself.

Our convention made good use of the convention level kiosk, but as I and my husband were on quite a lot of panels, and were also responsible for the board game room we were only able to get to this and not go any further for lunch. I would have welcomed a change from the chicken fried rice which was the only thing on offer for lunch for coeliacs, but a normal attendee would have been able to range further afield, so that's minor.

Breakfast buffet came as part of the room charge, and it was well worth while. A freshly cooked omelette was a real treat, and chef poached eggs as well.

Housekeeping really was wonderful, it was a comfort to stagger back into the room and find it had been tidied and freshened with such care.

They also were able to provide a humidifier at no cost, so thank you for that.

The pillows disagreed with me though - every night except the last, I went to bed fine, and woke up with a grungled neck. The last night, I went to bed with a grungled neck and woke up fine, so perhaps after 5 days I got used to the pillows.

Free wifi was very welcome - it comes with the loyalty thing they have.

I look forward to returning to this hotel, especially when it completes its renovations, the bath drain would not drain when we were having our showers, so the water climbed up our ankles, not the most pleasant of sensations!

Room Tip: Higher up is a better view of the river.
