OMG, it's true. I tried it out with a few of my own stories. "When I was maybe seventeen, I went to Prof Daniel for help with a problem. And then the murders began....." [Nation of the Night. Sort of]
"The attack came suddenly. And then the murders began.". Yep, works for Phryne Fisher. "In 63 BC Rome was by far the largest city in the known world. And then the murders began." And it definitely works for Augustus, From Revolutionary to Emperor.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. And then the murders began...." [Just think how this would have spiced up Jane Austen's work!]
