Hunt for Supernovae live! This blows my mind really!
The images are being taken here in Australia, by the Skymapper Telescope in Siding Spring.
These supernovae are so bright that they can outshine their entire galaxy, and if they catch them
early enough then they can pass the details on to their colleagues in Chile who are standing by with a large telescope ready to follow up on your discoveries.
They’ve already found some interesting things, but with new data received
from Australia in the last few hours, time is of the essence - we have only
a few hours before the Sun sets over the Atacama desert and the telescope
in Chile will swing into action, so we need your help right now.
So if you've got a spare moment, let's go hunting!

Thanks to the amazing effort of our volunteers we managed to discover a supernova candidate within the first few hours of the project being launched on BBC Stargazing Live! As night-time fell on Chile we were able to use a telescope there to confirm…
