Tonight Rob and I met in the Pleasure Garden where we enjoyed Vietnamese rice noodles, on the decking under the trees in Russell Square and afterwards a coffee and icecream, and the twilight surrounds.
When it was time for our show we wandered to the West Australian Speigeltent and had our socks blown off by some of the rawest, most exciting base and adagio work I've seen. 7 very skilled acrobats - and their act is up close and personal, no glitter, no spangles, just raw human power demonstrating the sculptural power of the human body and what it can do with its friends.
If you find your heart in your mouth watching the trapeze, and can't bear it, this might not be for you, but if it thrills you, then this is ten times more intense.
From the amusing strip skipping, to the "floor is lava but I'll be safe if I step on my friends, no, forget that let's jump on them!" to the flinging people around with gay abandon, to the Percussionist - all very close to the audience in this not huge tent it's a show of exceptional vitality and as it's home grown right here in W.A, we should be proud indeed.
This group has won a whole bunch of awards, and they're all well deserved.
I'd like to see this again, but I'm not sure my heart can take it.
10 out of 10 Astonishing, and finding you've set your picnic at the base jumping target on the Sid and Nancy Scale.
