Arriving in Adelaide - Part One.

Arriving in Adelaide - Part One.

On Friday Rob and I got up way early, had breakfast and drove to the airport. It was cheaper than a taxi to park in the long term parking, and a lot more convenient too.

We flew with Qantas and had a smooth take off and landing. Because we'd prearranged it we had gluten free meals - unfortunately with no bread or carbs provided - it was a very nice omelette but we were certainly more than ready for lunch by the time we were down.

Once landed at Adelaide airport we hopped onto a taxi with the intent of  dropping our baggage at the hotel in Burnside, which was near the community centre that ConCentric was held at. The hotel was the Adelaide Granada Motor Inn.

We arrived there a few hours before check in but they very kindly said that we were able to check in straight away, which was really good of them. We didn't manage to get a back room away from the busy Portrush Road with its trucks and trucks of agricultural produce, but we had earplugs and slept well enough Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

After we dumped our stuff (we were carrying one knapsack of clothes, and one of games and two camera bumbags) we walked to Burnside Village just down the road and close to where the gaming would be the next day, and eventually found something for lunch. Not a good spot for it, with one place of the 'take everything away that has gluten but not replace it with anything' school which is very unsatisfying.

Cibo at least managed to give us carbs.

So we were fed and got ourselves onto one of the frequently running buses into the city. And we walked and we walked and we walked. We had been told of a wonderful cheese experience at the Adelaide Central Markets.

They were right.

We entered the wonderful markets. And walked, and nibbled, and wondered - oooh these locally made smallgoods http://www.adelaidecentralmarket.com.au/traders/san-jose-at-sevenhill-fine-foods/ so delicious! - ooh this smelly cheese is WONDERFUL, oooh gf bircher muesli, oooh home made yoghurt...and so on. So we stocked up, and we, from this and the cunning use of some disposable plastic boxes.

We spent a good deal of time in the Market, getting lunches stuff, nuts, and sampling. Walk walk walk. Then we went to Coles, conveniently next door and got some other things like the takeaway containers for our lunches etc.

Then we walked walk walk walk back to the main drag, the street with all the museums and art galleries and universities in, and caught the bus back to the hotel.

And there we had a little sleep.
