When I was about 14 I went into hospital for some fairly serious surgery. My sister bought me Winter's Tale to read, which I read in hospital while on drugs that had me flying just as high as Athansor and Peter Lake but nowhere near as prettily. Last week we came into a couple of movie tickets to the movie. Not having read it for thirty odd years I was surprised at how much the film resonated with the fragments I remembered from the book. A charming film - it would be a very nice trifecta with The Princess Bride and Stardust. I am rereading the book - it's an extraordinary read and hasn't dated. I'm not at all disappointed by the film but no one else seems to be seeing it, which is sad.
